So this is a good example of just why we need our own platforms, that we have sole control over. For the second time in a month Facebook has blocked me from posting any content or allowing me access to live stream or messaging. People have started to call this Facebook Jail, and although I see why having something like this in place can be a measure of checks and balances, I have also seen how racist and corrupt it is. How white people can put up whatever without any form of repercussion, while many black people are subjected to Facebook prison.
I’m personally not angry or upset about this. What it does is reinforces my belief that the one holding power is always going to have a leverage over those that are lacking. This is why it is imperative that black people take control of our destinies and start building those things that are necessary for us as a group. Those things that don’t allow others to come in and dictate whether or not they can shut it down. We have to have full, unadulterated, autonomy and we can not concede that at any costs. So now that sites like Moorus and HourTimeNow are in place that provides options, but we need options not just in the aspect of social media, but all other areas conducive with our living here on earth.
I wanted to give this example, a small one, to show the type of work that is needed in order for us to take seriously autonomy and independence that we so deserve. For too long we’ve been subjected to a second class citizenship on the world stage and it’s time that we took a long, hard look at changing that paradigm and producing for ourselves, instead of being hindered by shutdowns because we don’t control our own. Plus it’s situations like this where the movement gets stagnated because the ones with power and control can simply eliminate the one with a voice. We need many voices and we need to be sole controllers of our own, worldwide.
